When you are farming Korthia, around world bosses (the world quests ones giving 500 anima) or the assaults, try to group. Like take Moon Guard, one of the largest Alliance RP realms however almost a good portion of the population is stuck in Goldshire not really contributing to the realm. That inflates the numbers. You probably want a full or high pop server that is dominated by your faction, which means more active guilds/players/ah for you. The AH commodities (mats, consumables etc) is region wide nowadays. Gear you still want a lot of buyers/sellers I guess. Advantages are that you get more guilds, more people in cities and trade chat, and a healthy economy (though that is not faction-specific). I ran some queries on all NA servers today for population estimates as found using a check of those in the LFG chat channel. This is obviously not perfect but is a much closer estimate than Ironforge.Pro or CensusPlusWOTLK. Realms still matter for guilds, the economy, and mythic raiding. Even if you don't care about mythic raiding, it's best to choose a realm that's very populous for your chosen faction unless you're joining a friend who's on a different sort of realm. Def a lot of people around. It’s more of a self-contained place as opposed to other servers that have a ton of connected realms and CRZ in open world.
